I had read the Strip Panel Naked reading a few weeks ago because I am in the Design group. It was really interesting to me because I never realized the importance of designing comics. The placement of the comic images and text really are what make the comic, the comic. If comics are not put together in the right way, the story may not be taken the same way. I never realized this because I have never really read a superhero comic book, just the short clips of comics in the newspaper. Having a book full of comics really needs to be done properly so that the reader can clearly understand what is happening.
The Vignelli reading was interesting but quite dry. If you aren’t into that kind depth into design then it gets overwhelming fast with all the ‘pragmatics’ and ‘syntactics’. I honestly had no idea that all that goes into designing something. I normally just put things in different places until I think it looks balanced, centered, and neat. I really liked that it included photos. I am a visual person and you can talk to me all day grids, type size relationships, and white space and I would not remember a word you said. Thankfully they included those images to give examples. I really liked the contrasting examples of each so you can really see the difference that these design techniques can make. Now that I have read this, I hope to apply this to things that I may make in the future. This reading would be a great reference for things like that!
